Jackie Phillips
Moving to Australia in 1990 and without a work visa, I decided to embark on a Copywriting course, that lead me to work in the industry for some of the leading radio stations and advertising agencies.
I moved into promotions and embarked on a journey that some only dream of.
Through my time at the Entertainment Agency, I worked on films liaising and publicising big name stars such as Cate Blanchett, Cubar Gooding Jnr, Guy Ritchie not to mention Spice Girls, Mr Bean and of course good old Barney!
The highlight of my career was being involved in the Sydney Olympics where I was fortunate to be part of the team in “Festival of the Dreaming”, great times and great people.
But being a Librian, I was always looking for new challenges, I decided to take a break from the glitz and glamour and concentrate on family life. I still needed to fill in my time, so I went to an agency and said just find me some temp work for a couple of weeks!
Five years later I was still working at LexisNexis, having started as a temp telemarketing and moving up and interstate as an Account Manager for the Bar in Melbourne.
Not so different from the A List movie stars, or so some of them would have you think!
Time for another change, but fate deals many strange cards!
Back to the Agency, “I have an ideal role for you”…. fantastic, I find myself at Thomson Legal* ( ThomsonReuters*).
After another five years of Bar, Corporate, small and large tier firms., I find myself working with a lady that truly brought me out of my shell and lead me to believe that anything was possible.
Michelle Rhodes and I would spend many days discussing how our vision for our company, how we could educate the legal market on how to be better at promoting their business, through marketing themselves on the internet and having a web presence.
With Michelle’s background of all things IT and sales and my background of writing and promotion, Gossipnet was born.
We were two ladies with a vision that dared to dream, took the plunge and sealed the deal with friendship, laughs and a successful business.
